Natte voeten terras

Natural climate buffers - Wet nature, dry feet

Safety is of paramount importance when it comes to climate-resilient spatial planning in the Netherlands. Costly technical solutions alone are no longer enough. Want to see how climate buffers could work? Visit the ‘Wet feet terrace’ of the Climate Buffer Coalition (stand EL.12) at the Aquaterra trade show.

We must allow nature to take part in the building of a safe delta where people can live, work and pursue recreational activities. The large-scale application of ecological processes fits into this picture. With the use of natural climate buffers, we are giving these processes sufficient latitude and are working on a safe, sustainable and beautiful result: wet nature and dry feet.

We call upon all administrators/managers and professionals of government bodies, the business community and knowledge institutions to think ahead and work according to the natural climate buffer approach. Go to www.climatebuffers.org for a safer and more beautiful Netherlands!

Climatebuffers is an initiative of ARK Natuurontwikkeling (ARK Nature), De Landschappen (Nature Landscape Heritage), Natuurmonumenten (Nature Conservation), Staatsbosbeheer (National Forest Service), Vogelbescherming Nederland (Bird Life International, The Netherlands), Waddenvereniging (Wadden Sea Society), Wereld Natuur Fonds (World Wide Fund for Nature).
